Saturday September 20th Outing - Hawk Migration
Photograph great numbers of hawks
while they rise out of the morning fog and mist in the trees. They fly to
capture the rising air thermals and sometimes are in great numbers swirling
overhead.
Where: Mendota Fire Tower at the top of Clinch Mountain. We need to
be on site by 9 AM for the
start of the thermals that the hawks will be using to take off.
Meeting Place & Time: We will
meet at Eastman Employee Center parking lot around 7:15am. We need to leave no later
than 7:30. Need to bring
your longest lens.
Important Note: There is a somewhat strenuous 25 min hike from the parking area to the fire tower.
Items to bring/wear:
- Comfortable hiking/walking shoes
- Long sleeves or windbreaker
- Cap or hat
- Sun glasses
- Sun screen
- Water, snacks, ....small hand sanitizer... There are no restroom facilities on the mountain---
- Binoculars
