Each year the Downtown Kingsport Association Foundation and the Main Art Center sponsors “An Evening with the Arts” which is designed not only to encourage and showcase area artists but also to provide a venue for the sale of quality art. The opening night reception called “The Evening with the Arts” features a surfeit of artwork, wine, food, and music by local musicians. Each participating artist receives a free ticket to the gala. The attire is semi-formal to formal.

Exhibition Dates: October 18 –November 1

Deadline for Registration: Monday, September 24, 2012

Delivery Dates: Artwork must be delivered to the Main Art Center at 140 West Main Street, Kingsport, October 2, 3 (Tuesday and Wednesday) 10-4:00

Pick Up Dates: November 1 and 2

Unsold artwork must be picked up at the Main Art Center by the above dates during regular business hours. You may call ahead at 246-6550 and verify that someone will be available. Work will remain during the duration of the show. However, if that prevents you from selling a piece, the patron may take it immediately. Any artwork not picked up by the stated time will not be insured. Any work left over 30 days will become the property of the Main Art Center and will be sold with ALL the proceeds going to the Main Art Center.

Guidelines:

  1. ALL ARTWORK MUST BE FOR SALE. A 30% commission will be charged. Any work marked NFS will not be accepted.
  2. The DKA will collect Tennessee State Sales Tax.
  3. All artwork displayed must be of the artist’s/craftsman’s own original conception and creation and not a copy of another’s work. No work should be submitted which has its origins in someone else’s design or work. It must not be copied from magazines or bookd or other copyrighted material. Reference photographs taken by the artist and used are perfectly acceptable.
  4. No work displayed will be made from kits, molds, or commercial patterns.
  5. Work must be of high quality. The DKA reserves the right to refuse to display any art they feel is unacceptable to community standards. Any art that is not framed properly or work that is still wet will be rejected.
  6. All two dimensional work must be framed and wired for hanging. Gallery wrapped canvases which have the sides painted are acceptable. However, the depth of the canvas must be at least 1 ½ inches with no staples showing.
  7. Plexiglas should be used instead of glass. While the workers are careful, the DKA will not guarantee the glass not being broken. Glass not only adds additional weight and stress on the wire and hanger but also is very dangerous to the workers hanging the pieces. Please be considerate.
  8. Prints must be of traditional methods such as serigraphy, lithography, etching, or relief type pieces. These must be done by the artists own hands. Mass reproductions of the artist’s original work by commercial means will not be accepted.
  9. Display stands for 3-D work will be available if the artist does not supply their own. Space is available for large and small 3-D work. Any work that requires special assembly or installation will have to be accomplished by the artist. Display cases are also available for jewelry or small metal working or ceramic pieces.
  10. While the Main Art Center is very large, the DKA cannot guarantee all pieces by all artists will be displayed.
  11. Artists who enter at least three pieces will receive a free ticket to the event.

Biographies: The DKA displays the biographies or artist’s statement of each artist. Please submit a statement of 100-200 words and lay it out on the page as you wish it to be shown. You may include a photograph on the page. Please email it to: Denise Freeman at corkyrand@yahoo.com subject as EWTA Bio. If you are not comfortable with sending an email or an attachment, send in a TYPED copy with your entry form. Please do not ask the DKA or people receiving artwork to write or help you write this. Registration: To participate in the EWTA, the registration form needs to be mailed to the above address by Monday, September 24. This ensures that:
  • the artist will be included in the program,
  • there will be a record for insurance purposes and
  • the gallery will know how many entries to expect.
Identification Forms: These must be filled out and attached to the back/upper right hand corner of each piece that is being entered. No art will be accepted without an identification form. For any further questions call Lisa Childress, President of the Main Art Center utlisa@embarqmail.com or 423-765-5215.
